Lex Luger the Beat Behind H*A*M

Look out Timbaland, Pharrell, and Swizz Beats, there is a new young producer that's getting alot of respect in the hip hop game. Almost two weeks ago, on 1.11.11 Kanye and Jay-Z released a song entitled H.A.M. which is the first single off the the collaboration  album "Watch The Throne LP." Lex Luger is that man behind the production. Lex Luger, the 19 year old Virginia native recently sat down and gave some inside information on how he hooked up with Rick Ross, Jay Z and how he's constantly coming up with hit making beats.
Producers beware, the young kid is making a name for himself and is surely someone to watch.

On meeting Waka Flocka Flame and getting in the game...
I first met Waka Flocka Flame off of MySpace. This is about a year ago. This is when he wasn't even popping. He had just came out with his first mixtape. I hit him up. I was just hitting everybody up, I was hungry. I was ready to work. He was the only one who really reached back to me. He gave me his email and every two or three days I sent him 20 beats. He liked my work. We built a friendship. When "O Lets Do It" got big, he signed to a label, bought Gucci Mane's old house, and moved me down there so we went to work.

On how "B.M.F." came together...
Spiff of SpiffTV reached out to me for the "Hard In The Paint" instrumental because Ross wanted that. Spiff directed the "O Let's Do It Remix" video out in Atlanta's Grand Central Station spot. People were bumping "Hard In The Paint" in a car and he was like, "What song is that?" This is before "Hard In The Paint" even blew up. It was just the streets was fucking with it. So he was like, "Who the hell did that?" So he got on the computer and searched, "Who produced this song." He found me on MySpace and Twitter and hit me like, "I need some of this music." And I told him, "I got it, but I got other stuff that's way better." I was sending Spiff 30 beats a day for seven days. I sent him a gang of beats and out of those beats was "B.M.F." and "MC Hammer."

Because I make so many beats, sometimes they'll have names, but sometimes they'll just be like 1-50. This batch of beats was just numbers. Spiff told me, "That beat 13, put that aside. Don't give it to nobody." And I did the same thing with "MC Hammer." He said, "That beat, put it aside."

Chris Brown X Friends Define Style

Everyone has their own sense of style, including myself. Take a look at R&B Singer Chris Brown and a few of his friends; Swizz Beatz, Big Sean & Tyga, as they all describe in a "Mechanical Dummy" webisode, their individual "definition of style".

Chris Brown:
"Most of the time when you think about style or dressing its basically what you bring to it. . the clothes don't wear you.. you wear the clothes."

"A lot of my fashion icons today are like Pharrell. Like he has a lot of incredible style and him being from Virginia you know thats always one of those kinda things that get the kids kinda excited. As far as me I was excited as a kid, like seeing him being able to kinda influence the world with his fashion and him being from the same place that I'm from, so that was kinda dope."

Big Sean:
"Style first of all is an extension of who you are, and it's just about that real high class fresh shit man, you know. .letting people know we got class too, real classy with it. I know how to step out in a Christian Dior suit. and doing it big. . you gotta know how to do that."

Make sure you check out Chris Brown's website to see what the other guys had to say about their definition of style. Also check back on the blog to get my thoughts and tips on "Style".

Sole Serious

“These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things”

Blue. Waffle House. All-Star Combo to be exact.  LSU Tigers. Shout-out to the 2007 National Champs. Big Ups to my boy Tyson, who now plays for the Kansas City Chiefs. Those are just a few of my favorite things. However, with my sneakers its a little harder to define. Matter fact, I really can’t tell you my favorite shoe, but the least I can do it give you my “Favorite 5”.
Air Jordan 9 (IX) Original Release

Yes, the original colorway, no substitutions. In my point its the best Jordan of all time; yeah I said it. Moreover, its the only Jordan he didn’t wear in a game, that makes it unique. Also go visit his statue in Chicago, yep those are the 9s on his feet. Yeah, those of actually mine.
Reebok Pumps….Now the Reebok Pump Bringback

Nostalgia is all I feel when I see these. I had the blue, white and orange pump joints. Maan! I remember I use to pump those things up for everything. Then what I thought was impossible happened…..THEY POPPED. Not fresh.
Air Jordan 11(XI) Original Release Concord

My mom took me to the mall, and I waited in line at 6am. While my mom walked the mall, getting her exercise in, I waited. But, I was too far behind in the line, and I had to end up getting a smaller size! Determined to still be the freshest kid in school, I just took the sole out, and had the laces super loose. Don’t act like you can’t relate.
Nike Air Penny II Atlantic Blue Colorway

For my 11th birthday, right before Christmas I was lucky enough to receive these. Since they were mostly white, and got dirty so quickly, I would clean them everyday before I put them on. Then when I took them off, I’d grab my toothbrush and towel and clean them off again before I put them in the box. Yes at 11 I was that fresh.
Deion Sanders Diamond Turf Max ‘96 Black and White

In my opinion Deion is one of the best athletes of all time. This is one of my favorite shoe from him. These were sooo fly. They had his face on the sole, right on top of the air bubble. Fresh. I remember watching Pizza Hut and Pepsi commercials on tv, and seeing how fly Deion was with them on. That man was clean.
These are just a few of my favorite kicks, what’s yours? Until next time, this is Chev, ya neighborhood Sneaker Head

Allow Me to Re-Introduce Myself

It could be the way the leather smells, or even the soft feel of suede. It might even be the way the shoe liner hugs my foot, or the comfort of just having a new shoe. It could even be the stares I get when I have on a fresh pair that no one has seen yet. Its like every time I purchase a new pair its Christmas all over again. I don’t know what exactly it is but I have a love for sneakers. There is no denying that; it one of my weakness. When I’m not on the field playing for one of your favorite teams, I’m Sneaker shopping, researching, and lusting.
I “stand” before you and confess; my name is Chevis Jackson and I am a Sneaker Addict. Take this journey as I take you outside the Locker Room and into my Sneaker World.
